AKC Labrador Puppies

  • Health & Quality Above All

At Granite Ridge Labradors, our mission is simple: we value quality and health over anything else. We are stewards of the breed, and that responsibility begins long before a litter is born.

    • Extensive Genetic Testing: Every sire and dam in our program undergoes comprehensive DNA screening through Embark to clear for over 200 genetic health conditions and ensure a healthy Coefficient of Inbreeding (COI).

    • OFA Clearances: We don't just "check" our dogs; we certify them. All our breeding dogs receive OFA x-rays to evaluate hips, elbows, and joints, ensuring they are free of dysplasia and structural issues.

    • Selective Placements: We believe every puppy deserves a home where they will thrive. Our selective process ensures that each puppy’s temperament and energy level are a perfect match for their new family’s lifestyle.

WE ARE EXPECTING!

Due Date: April 17, 2026

Estimated take home date: Jun 12 2026

We are very excited about our upcoming litter! We have crossed our AKC Charcoal American Labrador female “Ashie” with Bohlken Labradors’ AKC Yellow English Labrador “Chevy”. We selected this perfect pairing based on the benefits of breeding our dilute female, who has that attractive size and height, to a non-dilute factor male who has the stout, sturdy structure to promote joint strength and genetic factor health! We can’t wait to share updates!

All about Dilute Labradors

  • A Dilute-Factor Labrador is a Labrador Retriever with a specific color variation in its coat. This variation is caused by a combination of genetic factors that affect the production of pigment in the dog's hair.

The pigment responsible for the color of a dog's coat is called melanin. There are two types of melanin: eumelanin, which produces black and brown colors, and pheomelanin, which produces red and yellow colors. The production of melanin is regulated by genes called melanocortin 1 receptor (MC1R) and agouti signaling protein (ASIP).

As a specific example, in Charcoal Labradors, a mutation in the MC1R gene causes a decrease in the production of eumelanin, resulting in a gray or charcoal color. This mutation is also known as the "dilute" gene, and it is recessive, meaning that both parents must carry the gene for it to be expressed in their offspring.

The dilute colors in Labradors can vary in shade, with some dogs having a darker or lighter coat. Additionally, dilute Labradors may have blue or green eyes, which is also caused by a genetic mutation.

  • It is important to note that while the visually appealing color of a Charcoal Labrador’s coat may be visually appealing, it has no impact on their health or temperament. Charcoal Labradors are no different from other Labradors in terms of their physical or behavioral characteristics.

  • A dilute coat color does not have any impact on the ability to register a qualified Dilute-Factor Labrador. Charcoal Labradors are classified as Black Labs, Champagne & Dudleys are classified as Yellow Labs & Silvers are classified as Chocolate Labs by the AKC.

  • Silver Labs have a coat color that appears to be a light, almost white shade of gray. This color variation is also caused by a mutation in the MC1R gene, but it is a different mutation than the one that causes the charcoal color. Silver Labs were initially considered controversial within the Labrador community, but they are now recognized by the American Kennel Club (AKC) as a legitimate variation of the breed.

Champagne Labs have a coat color that appears to be a pale, almost pinkish shade of yellow. This color variation is caused by a combination of the dilute gene and a mutation in the ASIP gene. Champagne Labs are relatively rare and are not yet recognized as a legitimate variation of the breed by the AKC.

Charcoal Labs, as mentioned earlier, have a coat color that appears to be a deep, rich shade of gray. This color variation is also caused by a mutation in the MC1R gene, but it is a different mutation than the one that causes the silver color.

There are other coat variations that are not caused by dilution, but they may be less common or less widely recognized. These variations include:

Red fox Labs have a coat color that ranges from a deep reddish-brown to a lighter golden color. This color variation is caused by a recessive gene that affects the production of eumelanin.

Dudley Labs have a coat color that appears to be a light beige or pinkish hue. This color variation is caused by a lack of pigmentation in the nose and around the eyes, giving the impression of a "noseless" or "pink" Labrador.

Brindle Labs have a coat color that features a pattern of dark stripes on a lighter background color. This color variation is caused by a dominant gene that affects the distribution of pigment in the hair.

It's important to note that these variations do not necessarily indicate a difference in temperament or behavior. All Labradors, regardless of coat color, are friendly, loyal, and intelligent dogs.

Meet the Parents

All of our Dams & Sires come from authenticated pedigrees. Embark genetic test results cleared both of health conditions, genetic coefficient of inbreeding (COI), and 35+ trait tests including coat color, shedding, and more.

X-Rays provided to OFA returned results for Elbows as Normal with no evidence of elbow dysplasia and Hips joint confirmation evaluated as Good with no evidence of hip dysplasia.
